VERY happy with my purchase! It arrived very quickly and was packaged well. The sheet is beautiful and fits well.
I bought 2 of these with fleece lining and a rain sheet with no fleece lining, to use over a stable rug. I was immediately impressed (before even getting to the rug) with the bags they come in, which are like sleeping bag covers, which are ideal for storing when not in use. The outer rug material is excellent quality, similar material to a winter motorcycle jacket, very strong feeling. The fit of these rugs is also fantastic, the high cut neck and front leg darts make for plenty of room for front leg action - no matter what they are doing ! I have a 17.2hh TB who is of strong build with high wither and long back. She is wearing a 6'9" version which fits her lovely, and plenty of tail flap to keep her rear end covered. I have a 15.3hh and a 16.2hh both TB's of medium build and they are wearing a 6'6" version which also fits them brilliantly - my younger horse likes to fully test a new rug and immediately galloped and bucked round the field and got down for a roll. The rug stayed just where is should be. However i would advise using the rear leg straps, i prefer to remove these but found the slippage 'better' with them. I have found this is the perfect rug for changeable weather, they never seem to cold or hot in it. Ideal if the day starts cold but gets mild or wet as the day goes on. If i had to nick pick the only slight frustration is that the fleece liner sticks to the horses hair (static) and the outer liner moves on top of it, so sometimes trying to pull it straight can be a bit of a fiddle.... but that is just a case of physics! I love that i now don't have to use a rain sheet with a separate stable sheet underneath.....I am not a fan of rain sheets on their own and this rug bridges the gap perfectly. i have been using the rugs for about 6 weeks and fingers crossed they last a good many years. It is definitely more expensive that a basic rain sheet, but i think it is worth the extra money if you can grab one while it's on offer. Great service from Horze too, and speedy delivery.
I am sooooo excited that Horze came out with more colors in this blanket!!!! The purple/pink is what I have been looking to get my mare! I just made an order this morning for this blanket since I have this blanket in the dark blue. It fits my mare to a "T" because she is so difficult to find blankets that "actually" fit her right. I can't wait to get this in the mail!!! Yay!!!
This is my 2nd Avalanche blanket and I'm still in love even though the blanket has changed a lot. My original blanket is now 3 years old and still holds up like a much more expensive one. The main differences between the old style and this new one: Sizing - the old blankets ran really big! I bought a 78 which is really bulky on my 17.2h gelding. The new one(78) is MUCH smaller all the way around. the 78 barely fits and the drop is MUCH shorter. He would have done better in an 81 or 84 but the size was sold out, so I kept the smaller one. Styling - the old blankets shifted a lot, it's like the liner did not fit well inside the shell. The newer design is great. No shifting of the liner, no static and the the new buckle system allows for great adjustment. The leg straps could be longer on the new blanket, they almost give my boy a "wedgie" but since the fit overall is just a little on the small side, I will just buy longer straps when these wear out. Fabric - my old blanket was 800 denier, the new is 1200 and feels much tougher. However, the old one held up great, even with very obnoxious pasture buddies. What has not changed is the water proofing. These blankets are priceless in wet weather. I have tried every brand there is and these are the best hands down to keep your horse dry (but won't make them sweat!). My old blanket is washed after every winter season and the water-proof layer is just now peeling a tad on the edges. Whatever you guys do to add this layer, please don't change it! One thing that I did not care for is the Avalanche logo. It is out of a rubbery material and in the cold, it starts to get brittle! However, overall still love this blanket and will buy again.
I always worry about shoulder rubs on turnouts. Love the design and the color.
Finally, a durable turnout blanket that my horse can't destroy! He loves to roll in the pasture and all the straps and buckles are holding up great!
This might be the most perfect turnout sheet in the universe! Completely waterproof, breathable, with great fit! And so far, 3 weeks on the destructor of all blankets- with NO VISIBLE SIGNS of wear & tear! Thanks for another great product!
I am bowled over by this rug. It is a superb fit on my broad-chested, big-shouldered, high-withered, long-backed mare. So many thoughtful design features - the deep gusset positioned on, not behind, the point of the shoulders, for freedom of movement; the chest fastenings for plenty of adjustment and no undesirable pressure points; the unconstricting cut round neck and over withers and the cosy fleece lining. Looks good, too! Thank-you for exchanging it with no fuss for the smaller size - there is plenty of length in the 155cm for a horse who is often 7ft in rugs. She has never had such a well-fitting rug as this one.
Quality stunningly well made rug how every poor fit on my horse the half neck folds back and rug slips . Disappointed is not the word so wanted it to work and sit well on her .
